DEAR WEBSITE READER
Welcome to my information on mental health and self-harm
'in house' training for the workforce of organisations. We
will be shortly providing a distance learning with telephone
coaching support, equivalent to one day's training, in mental
health awareness and some basic suicide awareness for individual
employees.
We are able to provide a first class service at very competitive
costs due to the structure of our organisation.
FACTS ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH
It is estimated that approximately 15% of the population
in the UK suffer from Depression or anxiety disorders (Layhard
R. LSE April 2006). 1 in 4 people suffer from some type of
mental ill health in any one year.
The Suicide Prevention Annual Report on progress made in
2006, published April 2007 shows the target deadline at 2010
is slowly being met with a 7.4% reduction in deaths per 100,000
from the baseline dates beginning 2003.
KEY POINTS INCLUDE:
The overall rate of suicide amongst the general population
is at the lowest rate on record, reduced in 2005, the most
recent overall year recorded, after 2004.
There has been an encouraging reduction in suicide in young
men under the age of 35; a sustained reduction in this group.
A fall in the number of suicides amongst mental health in-
patients from 214 in 1997 to 154 in 2004 (latest figures available)
A 17% reduction compared with last year in self-inflicted
prison deaths.
